Prague, Czech Republic

Leaving from Berlin, again by train, we travelled to Prague in the Czech Republic, which was a much more pleasant train journey than from Gdansk to Berlin, but I guess you come to expect that from the German’s, they’re pretty damn good at that sort of thing.

We weren’t planning on making this into a thing, but after these train journeys and what not, we were super lazy when it came to finding our way to our accomodation via public transport so into a taxi we went!

In search of snow at Lecht

Emma’s car needed to go into the garage for some warranty recall thing, and the garage is in Elgin which is a little over an hour away from Aberdeen, so it called for an early start on Saturday, and I wasn’t best pleased with that.

Berlin, Germany

If you’re reading these in order, then following our time in Gdansk, our next destination was Berlin in Germany. We headed to Gdansk Glowny on a cold Thursday morning for our 7:30am train to Berlin Hauptbahnhof which was around a 6 hour direct train journey. A pretty smooth train journey to be honest, except the almost non-existent luggage space unless you had a tiny case, and when travelling with Emma, that’s never the case.

We arrived into Berlin a little bit before 2pm, and then just hopped into a taxi and headed to where we were staying for the next few days – The Circus Hostel, in Berlin’s Mitte district. There’s nothing worse than travelling for a long-ish period of time and then have to drag luggage around public transport and then unfamiliar streets in search of your accomodation.

A little bit of an oversight by us, but the Berlin Marathon was on while we were visiting, so as expected, accomodation was on the pricey side. However, the Circus Hostel was spot on for everything we needed – perfect location, our own room, good vibes, and the facilities were good. No complaints.

Kinnoull Hill

If you’re from Scotland, then there’s a chance that you’ve probably drove the A90 between Dundee and Perth and maybe you’ve noticed, or maybe you haven’t, but right before you go cross the Friarton Bridge over the River Tay heading southbound, Kinnoull Hill is on your right with it’s tower sat atop right on the edge.

Well, every single time we drive past, we always say how we want to go up there, and finally, we done just that!

Gdansk, Poland

Ok, first off, I must apologise. I think it’s been like two months since I last uploaded a blog post, but that’s not without reason. I was on holiday for a couple of weeks, and then had a few more trips when I came back, and have just generally been absolutely swamped. Not to mention the fact that I can no longer upgrade my media storage space on here, so have had to upload images to Flickr and then post the links in here.

Anyway, let’s get to it…

There is absolutely no way that I am leaving it until mid-September to go away on holiday, I have never ever looked forward to a holiday so much in my life, long awaited indeed.

Much like our trip to Italy last year, we started off by booking flights (we booked these at the start of the year which made the wait until September even worse!), and to try and make things a little cheaper, we decided to try work some route out using direct flights to and from Aberdeen.

Wizz Air started doing direct flights to Gdansk and Warsaw earlier this year, and I had visited friends in Poland last year, and Emma wasn’t able to make it, so we figured that was a good enough place to start!

Pennan

The Scottish coast is lined with small villages like Pennan, which are just sat perfectly with their single row of coloured homes, and their small harbour, and they usually only have a single track road into them down what feels like the steepest hill know to man.

But Pennan has a very famous red phone box in the heart of the village, which film enthusiasts travel from all over the world to make a phone call from, as Pennan was one of the main locations in the 1980’s film Local Hero.
